Why VRAM matters more than raw GPU speed for rendering
When a GPU render engine (Redshift, Octane, Cycles GPU mode, Arnold GPU) runs out of VRAM mid-render, it either falls back to a much slower CPU-assisted mode or crashes outright. A faster GPU with too little VRAM will often render slower in practice than a slightly slower GPU with enough VRAM to hold the whole scene.

Real-time engines change the math
If you're using a real-time renderer (Eevee, Unreal Engine, Twinmotion-style tools) rather than an offline path-tracer, VRAM pressure is generally lower for the same visual complexity, because these engines are built to work within tighter memory budgets by design.
Buying advice for Uganda in 2026
Don't buy VRAM capacity for scenes you're not actually making yet -- an 8GB or 12GB card comfortably covers most freelance and small-studio work in Uganda today. Reserve the 16GB+ cards for confirmed film/VFX-scale projects, where the extra cost is justified by the work, not by "future-proofing" in the abstract.
